The contest between and LCD is indeed very fascinating. Each has their own characteristics. Whether to buy a or an LCD will depend on your personal taste and your preferences. Let us tackle the points one by one.

If you’re still living back in the days when TVs were only supposed to last a short time then you need to drag yourself back into current reality.

The truth is, a HDTV can last you up to half a lifetime - that’s no exageration with several major companies including , Samsung and Pioneer listing longevity of up to 60,000 hours.

Equivalent Longevity To LCD TVs

This now means TVs are now equal to LCDs in longevity which is impressive considering LCDs were supposed to run them out of town when they first hit the market and many were shouting the “death of .”

Here are some thoughts on the benefits of choosing a HDTV. It should be remembered that these are general statements and will vary between makes and models.

Black/Contrast Levels

One of the most important factors and certainly what the experts always check first is that of black levels. Generally black Levels have traditionally been best on screens primarily due to the way that the screens create contrasts - LCDs will alter crystals to block light whereas Plasmas modify the power to each pixel - as such screens are usually far more effective at displaying blacks. The gap between the best plasmas and LCDs has certainly narrowed recently with some of the best LCD screens from Sony, Samsung and rival the top screens for the depths of their blacks and contrasts.

This unit gives me trouble reading disks, for example, could see the movie Knowing [Blu-ray/Región 1(a)] (2009) (Nicolas Cage) and to read the image files can only carry a limited quantity, at least about 100 files . jpg, no more....  Read more reviews

Older model, worked fairly well, however DVD mode failed within 90 days. Has to be sent to Texas for repair or replacement. Viera Cast will not access Netflix or Hulu. No firmware upgrade planned to correct per Panasonic press releases. Player remote does not control Panasonic HD TV well and visa versa , requiring you to keep both remotes handy....  Read more reviews

If you are someone who needs a fifty inch screen to watch movies on, this machine is not for you. If you are someone with a Blu-Ray collection who travels and wants a way to watch them on the move, keep going. The DMP-B500 has a 10.1 inch screen that operates on a 1024x600 screen resolution. The DMP-B500 does NOT have a native 1080P screen. It is, ...  Read more reviews

Hopefully this review will keep others from expecting the Panasonic DMP-BD85K WiFi Enabled Blu-Ray Disc Player to have features that it does not. However it does not play files from hard ...  Read more reviews

The reason they listed the resolution as WSVGA is they didnt want to outright state exactly what it was. WSVGA is 1024x600, which happens to be the standard on many netbooks these days. This device does not need to exist. At that resolution you would do well to just watch DVD's. It is totally unsuitable for watching blu-rays. It cannot even play at...  Read more reviews

Streaming video is the future of in-home entertainment and the BD65 is a capable unit. It pairs up well with my Panasonic Plasma. Boot time is a smidge slow but on my network the setup was as easy as plugging it in. No IP addresses to enter and the detection process did all the work. The video quality is perfectly acceptable but the feature set...  Read more reviews
